Electra (Play)

by Sophocles, adapted by Dennis Christilles

Saturday September 06, 2014
Crafton-Preyer Theatre, Murphy Hall
Electra follows the title character's quest with the help of her brother, Orestes, to avenge the death of their father at the hands of their mother and her lover. The story of the two siblings set on gaining justice for one parent's wrongs at the hands of the other is one that has stood the test of time and still fascinates audiences today. This production will be performed in both English and Greek. It was created as part of the 2014 KU Summer Theatre in Greece program and was performed at Oiniades, a 4th century BCE open-air theatre. Students involved with the program live and attend classes in the village of Katohi, which is a part of the larger community of Iniades. The performance will be followed by a talkback with the cast about the play and their study-abroad experience in Greece.
