Dracula (Play)

adapted by Dennis Christilles from the novel by Bram Stoker

Sunday October 20, 2013
Crafton-Preyer Theatre, Murphy Hall
The iconic story of Count Dracula comes to the University Theatre for the first time with chills, thrills and vengeance. Jonathan Harker, a solicitor for an English real estate broker, returns from Transylvania and becomes wrapped up in the mystery of beautiful Lucy Westenra's irregular behavior of sleepwalking and illness. When Professor Van Helsing is called in and realizes a vampire is to blame, Jonathan teams up with an eccentric cast of characters to hunt down the daunting Count Dracula in order to protect his wife Mina and save their own lives. Although the character of Dracula and versions of his story abound in print, film and on the stage, director Dennis Christilles's new script captures the structure and tone of Bram Stoker's original novel which has captured audiences' imaginations for generations. The real story in this rousing, fresh adaptation lies in the overarching conflict between good and evil, and our xenophobic inability to recognize one from the other.
