The Sudety/Sudetenland Experience: The Palimpsest Memory of Silesia (Lecture)

Dr. Roman Sukac, Silesian University, Czech Republic

Wednesday September 19, 2012
4:00pm - 5:00pm
Kansas Union, Alderson Auditorium
Indo-Europeanist and Slavist Dr. Roman Sukac will present a talk about the multilayered cultural heritage of Czech Silesia, a region populated historically by Germans, Czechs, and Jews, each with their sociocultural niche. More than a half a century after World War II, when the region was resettled by Czech speakers, many from other parts of the former Czechoslovakia, interest in the pre-War past and its multiethnic heritage has steadily risen.
